Where does ship dock ?: Ships have to anchor off Santorini and tender passengers into Skala Fira, the small port below the capital, Thera (also known as Fira). Thera / Fira dates from the 9th century and lies atop 1,000 - foot cliffs at the edge of the caldera. You can reach it by funicular or go up the steep, winding steps the fun way - by donkey!

Getting Around : Most cruise travelers will be taking full - day or half - day tours to Oia Village, Local Winery, Fira, Panagia Episkopi Church.

Tour Plan :

Enjoy a short trip by local boat, to Athenios harbour. Board your motorcoach and proceed to the archeological site of Akrotiri. Often compared to Pompeii, Akrotiri boasts a much earlier age and preserves amazing ruins dating back to the second millennium BC. Walk through the well kept passage way in the excavated area and marvel at the beautiful pottery, the two and three story houses, which were once decorated with renowned wall paintings, the staircases and a great variety of rooms, roads and squares of a city 3,500 years old! Return to your motorcoach and continue on through the beautiful countryside to Fira, an attractive town perched on the Caldera rim where the land slopes gently in one direction and falls steeply in to the sea in the other. Enjoy the town at leisure or perhaps relax over a coffee as you gaze down upon Kamenes, the two black volcanic islets in the Caldera Bay. Afterwards, return to the small pier of Scala by cable car, where the vessel’s tenders will take you back to the ship.
